New TV spot for The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games has released a new TV spot ahead of the film's release at the end of the month. Some of the footage on display has been seen before, but there are enough new snippets in there to pique our interest. For example, we see a little more of an exchange between Katniss and her sister Primrose, in which the younger girl beseeches her sibling to, "just try to win."Then there's a scene with Lenny Kravitz's stylist Cinna, who encourages Katniss before the contest begins. "I'm not allowed to bet," he begins, "but if I could, I'd bet on you."Take a look at the new spot below... Exciting stuff, particularly that brief glimpse of a chase sequence in which Katniss is confronted by a massive burning branch. Much of the actual action has remained impressively under wraps, meaning despite the proliferation of trailers and teasers, there's still plenty to anticipate ahead of the film's great unveiling. The Hunger Games opens in the UK on 23 March 2012. We can hardly wait...

Ah yes, April 13...Right before Christmas we had the worldwide trailer, where the film was going through the moniker of MS One: Maximum Security. And today here's the "domestic" trailer, in which the title is Lockout. When we first reported on its rise in Feb 2010, it had been known as Section Eight. But regardless of the title, it stars Guy Pearce and Maggie Sophistication, and appears just like a blast.Sophistication may be the daughter of leader Peter Stormare, who's on some kind of diplomatic trip to a maximum security space prison for harmful lunatics, revolving about miles over the Earth. Unluckily on her, she's the catalyst for any mass break-out, regardless of the fortress' whole supposed "impregnable" factor. And also the only guy who are able to get her to safety? Pearce's smart-ass badass Lizard Plissken Snow, that's who."Don't misunderstand me,Inch he states. "It is a dream vacation. Time passes into space, I recieve within the maximum security nuthouse, work through all of the psychos, save the president's daughter if she's not dead already... I am thrilled that you'd think about me."The final clip was large the loop within the prison, but that one gives much more of a peek at the carnage outdoors, with space battles along with a destructive-searching bike / vehicle freeway chase.Lockout, because it shall henceforth be known here, is co-compiled by Luc Besson, and reaches us through his Europacorp (Taken, the Transporter films, last year's Colombiana). The company directors are James Mather and Stephen St. Leger. If you have not seen their fantastic video clip Prey Alone, now will be the time, in front of Lockout's United kingdom release (per week sooner than the States) on April 13.

Arts NYS Coalition Calls to Rebuild New York State Council on the Arts

The Arts NYS Coalition, a group of statewide arts and cultural organizations, wants to partner with the NY State Legislature to rebuild the NY State Council on the Arts."Cultural tourism, arts education, and direct employment in the cultural sector are critical to the State's economic vitality," Hilary Oak for the St. Lawrence County Arts Council in Potsdam, said in a statement released Monday. Oak added that NYSCA funding generated almost $23 million in regional economic impact over five years. "NYSCA funding is essential to the health and growth of our local economies."The NYSCA proposed local grants budget is $31.6 million, almost $4 million less than it was in 1985, and in recent years, the State's commitment to the arts has declined significantly, argued Norma Munn of the NY City Arts Coalition.According to Steve Butler of the Cultural Resources Council in Syracuse, "53,085 arts-related businesses generate 335,683 jobs, which pay close to $9.8 billion in wages, which then generates $1.2 billion in taxes, and a whipping $25.7 billion in economic impact statewide."The Coalition is recommending a four year initiative, asking the Legislature to increase the proposed local grants funding for NYSCA by $4.5 million to $36.1 million with a goal of reaching $50 million within the next four years. The Coalition also wants to see the Legislature commit to join public hearings around the State to begin a discussion about how NYSCA can be re-conceived in its six decade."It is time to return to the vision and commitment of the early years of the NY State Council on the Arts, when Governor Rockefeller and the Legislature declared that public support of the arts would 'insure that the role of the arts in the life of communities would conintue to grow,'" Munn said. "NY State's commitment to the arts set the stage for the creation of the National Endowment for the Arts, and led the way for other states to emulate their actions."
